    Garage sizes chart

Common garages from one car to four, each a steel building priced by the same model as the designer above: tube steel at the dealer’s list price, delivered and installed on your level site. The vehicle columns are how many park inside by the designer’s clearances, each at the size its maker publishes. Prices were read Oct 30, 2026. Pick a garage to open it in the designer.

These are planning sizes of where vehicles park, not construction plans. Door framing and openings come from the dealer’s drawings and your building department.

Least garage size by the number of vehicles

The designer parks each vehicle nose first behind its own roll-up door, with 2 ft to each side wall, 3 ft between two vehicles, 1 ft in front and 2 ft behind. The least garage that parks one to four of a kind that way, width by length in whole feet; when the doors need the longer wall, they go on the side wall:

Least footprint, width by length, for vehicles side by side

    SUVs2027 Chevrolet Tahoe12 × 21 ft21 × 24 ft21 × 35 ft21 × 45 ft

The door wall grows with each vehicle: a car adds its width and the room between, so 29 ft parks three cars and 38 ft four. The depth does not grow, since the vehicles stand side by side: 20 ft for cars, 21 ft for SUVs and 23 ft for full-size pickups.

Garage dimensions by the number of cars

    • One car: a 12 × 20 ft garage parks 1 car; a 12 × 24 ft one also takes 1 pickup or 1 SUV.
    • Two cars: 20 × 20 ft parks 2 cars and 24 × 24 ft 2 pickups or 2 SUVs. Minimum, standard and oversized sizes: 2 car garage dimensions.
    • Three cars: a 24 × 36 ft garage with three 9 × 8 ft roll-up doors on the side wall parks 3 cars, 3 pickups or 3 SUVs.
    • Four cars: a 24 × 48 ft garage with four 9 × 8 ft roll-up doors on the side wall parks 4 cars, 4 pickups or 4 SUVs.

From three cars on, the table puts the doors on the long side wall: the end wall is too short for three doors with room beside each one, and the building stays as deep as one vehicle and its walkway.

    Garage doors and wall height

In the designer each roll-up door is one lane. The door width decides what passes: an SUV is 7 ft 10 in wide and takes a door at least 8 ft 10 in wide, so in the designer an SUV takes a roll-up of 9 × 8 ft or more, while cars and pickups pass doors of 8 × 8 ft. A taller wall takes a taller door, a roof rack or a car lift; the designer prices any wall height and tells you which doors fit it.

How the sizes are worked out

    Least size

For each count the designer tries door walls one foot apart, from narrow to wide, until every vehicle parks in its own lane, then depths the same way. Each vehicle gets the smallest roll-up it passes: 6 in clear on each side of it and 6 in above. The vehicle sizes are the makers’ published specifications; the clearances are the designer’s, for opening doors and walking around, not a code minimum.

    Price range

    What it covers
A tube-steel garage at the dealer’s list price, delivered and installed on your level site. The slab and site preparation are extra.
    What moves it
The roof area, the wall area and the doors. The model behind it is fitted to 146 published prices from Alan's Factory Outlet, Carport Central and Get Carports.
    Why it is wide
Sellers list the same building at very different prices, and the range holds the middle 80% of them. Where your quote lands depends on the seller, the steel and the options you add.
    Where it stops
The data holds widths of 12 to 100 ft, lengths of 20 to 250 ft and walls of 6 to 20 ft. A garage framed on site by a contractor is priced by local quotes, not by these listings.

    Questions

What is the length and width of a double garage?

Two cars park in a 20 × 20 ft garage at the least. For two full-size pickups it is 21 × 23 ft and for two SUVs 21 × 24 ft with the doors on its 24 ft side wall, so a 24 × 24 ft garage takes any of the three pairs.

What length does a garage need to be?

Deep enough for the longest vehicle and the walkway around it: 20 ft for a car, 21 ft for an SUV and 23 ft for a full-size pickup, which is 19 ft 4 in long. Add depth for a bench or storage behind the vehicles.

What are the standard dimensions of a three-car garage?

Three cars park side by side in a 20 × 29 ft garage at the least, with the doors on its 29 ft side wall. The 24 × 36 ft garage in the chart, with three 9 × 8 ft roll-up doors on the side wall, parks 3 pickups or 3 SUVs and lists for $13,900–$38,400 delivered and installed.

Is 30 feet wide enough for a 3 car garage?

For three cars, yes: they need a door wall of 29 ft. Three full-size pickups need 31 ft and three SUVs 35 ft, each behind its own door.
