    Prices by size

    Tube-steel buildings delivered and installed on a level site, priced by the same model as the designer above, with prices read Oct 30, 2026. Each range is the middle 80% of what sellers publish for a comparable building.

    The slab is extra: its installed cost and the concrete to order are listed with each size. Pick a size to open it in the designer.

    How it works

    Price range

    What it covers
    A tube-steel building at the dealer’s list price, delivered and installed on your level site. The slab and site preparation are extra.
    What moves it
    The roof area, the wall area and the doors: a taller wall or one more roll-up door moves the range. The model behind it is fitted to 146 published prices from Alan's Factory Outlet, Carport Central and Get Carports.
    Why it is wide
    Sellers list the same building at very different prices, and the range holds the middle 80% of them. Where your quote lands depends on the seller, the steel and the options you add.
    Where it stops
    The data holds widths of 12 to 100 ft, lengths of 20 to 250 ft and walls of 6 to 20 ft; past those, the price tag says the range is rough. Red-iron kits, post-frame and Quonset buildings are priced by separate models and are not in this range.

    What fits inside

    Each vehicle is drawn at the size its maker publishes and drives in nose first through a roll-up door. It needs:

    • 6 in to spare on each side of the door and 6 in above it;
    • 2 ft from a side wall and 3 ft from the next vehicle, so a door can open;
    • a 2 ft walkway behind it.

    When something does not fit, the designer says which door or wall stops it.

    Snow load by ZIP

    Enter a ZIP code and the designer looks for weather stations within 25 km (16 miles) of it in the Utah State University snow-load data release (2023), CC BY 4.0. When the stations agree it shows one ground snow load; when they disagree it shows the range and names the nearest.

    That is a planning number. The building code sets the ground snow load for your site, and the building’s designer works out the load on the roof from it, the roof’s slope and shape, its exposure and how the building is used.

    Slab and concrete

    The concrete covers the whole footprint plus a thickened edge under the walls, with extra for spillage and an uneven base: 4 in slab, 12 in thickened edge, 10% extra. It is rounded up to what you would order.

    The installed slab cost of $4 to $8 per square foot comes from the cost guides of Angi, HomeGuide and This Old House.

    Questions

    What are the different sizes of steel buildings available?

    The tube-steel buildings in our price data run 12 to 100 ft wide and 20 to 250 ft long, with walls of 6 to 20 ft. The table above prices six common sizes, from a 20 × 20 ft that parks 2 cars to a 50 × 100 ft that parks 10 cars. The designer takes other sizes too.

    What are the different types of steel buildings?

    By frame, four kinds are sold. Tube-steel buildings have frames of square steel tubing and are mostly sold delivered and installed. Red-iron buildings have welded I-beam frames and are sold as kits with stamped drawings; delivery, erection and doors cost extra. Post-frame buildings stand on wood posts and are clad in steel panels. Quonset buildings are steel arches with no separate frame; the kits we priced come without end walls.

    How much does a 40X60 metal building cost with a slab?

    $36,300–$92,600 for a 40 × 60 ft tube-steel building with 14 ft walls, delivered and installed, with a 4 in slab: $26,700–$73,400 for the building and $9,600–$19,200 for the slab. Site preparation is not included.

    How many cars will fit in a 40x60 shop?

    6 cars in a 40 × 60 ft with two 12 × 12 ft roll-up doors on the end wall, parked at the clearances above. Each roll-up door is a lane, so more doors can mean more cars: open the size from the table and add a door to see.
