Metal Building Calculators

About

What the site does, where its numbers come from and what it is not.

What the site does

Metal Building Calculators is a free designer for steel garages, shops and other metal buildings. You set the width, length, wall height, roof pitch and doors, and the site draws the building so you can turn it and see it from inside or outside.

Park the vehicles you own inside and it tells you what fits, or which door or wall stops the rest. Beside the drawing it shows a price range for the building, the ground snow load for your ZIP code and the concrete for the slab.

Who runs it

The site is made and run by Metal Building Calculators, and its pages are written under that name. Each number comes with its method and sources, so you can check a figure rather than take our word for it.

How the numbers are made

The price range comes from a model fitted to 146 published list prices of tube-steel buildings from Alan's Factory Outlet, Carport Central and Get Carports, read Oct 30, 2026. It holds the middle 80% of what those sellers ask for a comparable building, delivered and installed on a level site. The slab and site preparation are extra.

The ground snow load for a ZIP code comes from the weather stations near it in the Utah State University snow-load data release (2023), CC BY 4.0.

The installed slab cost comes from the cost guides of Angi, HomeGuide and This Old House. Vehicles are drawn at the sizes their makers publish.

The home page explains the method part by part. These are planning numbers for sizing a building and setting a budget, not a quote and not an engineer’s work.

What it is not

The site is not a dealer and does not sell, order or install buildings. A price range on it is not an offer.

It does not design buildings either. The snow load it shows is a planning value from a public dataset. The building code sets the load for your site, and the building’s designer works from that.

Quote requests

“Get prices for this building” sends your name, email, ZIP code, phone if you give one and when you want to build, with the building. The request is stored on this site’s server and emailed to the site’s mailbox so we can reply. It is not passed on to dealers or anyone else.

How long it is kept, and what else the site stores, is on the Privacy page.

Corrections and contact

If a number looks wrong, write with the building link and what you expected. We check it against its source. A fix goes into the data, so every page using that number changes with it.
